Mario Frangoulis on One Voice From Africa – March 29th

Mario Frangoulis
Mario Frangoulis is a tenor of the 21st Century, with the ability to sing everything from a hard-rock anthem to an operatic aria. "My greatest love is opera and classical music," Mario says, "I always sang from an early age, with a record player—with Greek singers of course, but also recordings of movie musicals, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand. I knew I had a good voice but I didn’t know I had an operatic voice. In the beginning, I was against anyone saying I had that kind of operatic sound. I had always felt I didn’t belong in that category. I wanted to communicate the music, and I didn’t think opera singers sounded young enough, modern enough." Then Frangoulis saw a performance of Carmen with José Carreras and Agnes Baltsa, which drew him into the world of opera.

I had anticipated a 15-minute interview with Mario on One Voice From Africa!

Can you begin to imagine the thrill as the (supposed) interview rapidly evolved into a gentle and very heartfelt conversation that lasted for over two hours?

Be sure to tune in to this very special episode of One Voice From Africa on Tuesday March 29th, 2011 at 7:00PM, and be prepared to listen to the most awe-inspiring conversation. Mario and I discuss life, love, causes, music, Africa, and so much more . . . you’ll want to listen in to hear the story of the 'red rose' . . . so join us, and share this information with your family, friends, and loved ones.

You’ll certainly not want to miss this exclusive 'conversation' with Mario Frangoulis on One Voice From Africa – but if you do, do be reminded that it is available to download so that you can listen at your leisure. You can also subscribe to our FREE podcast in the Apple iTunes Store – simply visit Apple iTunes and search One Voice From Africa or Kenneth Hieber.

Mario and I look most forward to having you join us.

Mario Frangoulis exclusive interview on One Voice From Africa

Then Frangoulis saw a performance of Carmen with José Carreras and Agnes Baltsa, which drew him into the world of opera.

Mario studied the violin for 10 years, and even composed a bit when he was a boy. At the age of 17, he attended London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama to study acting and singing. While at Guildhall he was discovered by Sir Cameron Mackintosh, who is referred to by the New York Times as “the most successful, influential and powerful producer of our time.” He immediately hired Frangoulis upon his graduation to play the character of Marius in Les Misérables in London’s West End. Soon thereafter, he was invited by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber to play the role of Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera to great critical acclaim.

International Women’s Day 2011 and One Voice From Africa

This past week, One Voice From Africa celebrated a most enjoyable line up of great guests, incredible performers, and a host of very useful African tourism information. To all who were involved, my sincerest gratitude for sharing time with us on the air.

The week opened on March 08, which was 'International Women’s Day 2011', and the entire production team selected the event as prime billing, not just for that particular day but also for the remaining March episodes.

International Women's Day has been observed since in the early 1900's, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.

IWD is now an official holiday in Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus,Burkina Faso, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Georgia, Guinea-BissauEritrea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Madagascar (for women only), Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Nepal (for women only), Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam andZambia. The tradition sees men honoring their mothers, wives, girlfriends, colleagues, etc with flowers and small gifts. In some countries, IWD has the equivalent status of Mother's Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.

Annually on 8 March, thousands of events are held throughout the world to inspire women and celebrate achievements. A global web of rich and diverse local activity connects women from all around the world ranging from political rallies, business conferences, and government activities and networking events through to local women's craft markets, theatric performances, fashion parades and more.

One Voice From Africa, whilst continually broadcasting its primary topic which is African tourism throughout the month of March, will also continue to celebrate International Women’s Day with great female guests and music. Stay tuned – this month’s line up promises to bring diversity to the show and we look forward to having you join us!

Whoever you are and wherever you are, with respect, we applaud you! One Voice From Africa will be aired today in your honor!

I especially pay the utmost of respect to MY mother, Grace Hieber, today – soon to turn 89, she has been a pillar of strength to me my entire life!
